The inaugural Assam Youth Football League (Under-13), organized under the initiative of the Assam Football Association and in association with the Nowgong Sports Association, kicked off at the Nurul Amin Stadium on May 10, 2026. The double round-robin league, which was scheduled to continue until June 6, began with an exciting opening match between We Sports of Guwahati and Murkongselek United FC that ended in a 3-3 draw, resulting in both teams sharing a point each. The tournament was formally inaugurated by the Treasurer of the Assam Football Association, Hiren Gogoi. The eight teams that participated in the league were PJP FC, We Sports, BodoFA FC, Guwahati United, Kaziranga Sports Club, Brahmaputra Dolphins, Murkongselek United FC, and Guwahati Town Club. During the inaugural function, the General Secretary of the Nowgong Sports Association, Tapan Kumar Das, delivered the welcome address. Other dignitaries present at the occasion included the Administrative Officer of the Assam Football Association Ranjit Mahanta, Referee Head Ohiduzzaman, and sports organizers Ujjal Baruah, Asim Kumar Bhawal, Prantar Kumar Bhattacharya, Diganta Bora, Sanjay Kumar Mahatu, and Azharuddin Ahmed. In the opening match, Nilav Bora gave We Sports an early lead in the 3rd minute, but Roshan Ali of Murkongselek United FC equalized in the 11th minute. An unfortunate own goal by Bhairav of We Sports in the 27th minute then gave Murkongselek United a 2-1 lead heading into halftime. After the break, both teams, which featured several promising young players, displayed an attractive brand of football. In the 50th minute, Roshan Ali scored his second goal of the match to extend Murkongselek United’s lead to 3-1. Refusing to back down, We Sports mounted heavy pressure on the opposition's defense; Nilav Bora scored his second goal in the 54th minute, and Pratik Sonar netted the equalizer in the 61st minute to lock the final score at 3-3.
