The Nowgong Sports Association observed Nurul Amin Memorial Day and National Sports Day on 29 August 2026, commemorating the death anniversary of the legendary sports organiser and educationist Nurul Amin Saheb and the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the iconic Indian hockey player fondly remembered as the “Wizard of Hockey.”
A distinguished figure in Indian sports, Nurul Amin Saheb served as the former President of the All India Football Federation and played a significant role in the development of sports and physical education in the country. He was also an accomplished educationist and sportsperson and served as the Manager of the Indian football team that participated in the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia. He further served as the first Director of Sports and Physical Education under the State Directorate. His remarkable contribution, dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to sports continue to inspire generations.
In recognition of his enduring legacy and invaluable contribution to the sporting community, the Nowgong Sports Association has been observing Nurul Amin Memorial Day every year. The Association also observed National Sports Day to mark the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, one of the greatest legends of Indian hockey whose extraordinary achievements and sporting spirit continue to inspire young athletes across the nation.
The occasion served as a meaningful tribute to the ideals, achievements, and lasting legacy of both sporting icons. It also reaffirmed the commitment to encouraging the younger generation to embrace sports, develop discipline and teamwork, and contribute towards building a healthy, strong, active, and sports-oriented society.
